A Celebration of Families
Family & Juvenile Law Omaha was proud to be among the partners who contributed to Omaha's second annual celebration of National Reunification Day on June 4, 2011.
The event celebrated successes of the families who worked hard to be reunified through the judicial process in the Separate Juvenile Court for Douglas County Nebraska.
Among those who attended this year's event in Elmwood Park - families reunified through the juvenile court process, social workers, court personnel, lawyers, and others involved in bringing children and parents back together after the children have been removed from their parents by the judicial process and placed in foster care.
This marked the second year Family & Juvenile Law Omaha Managing Partner Attorney Jackie Madara-Campbell served on the event planning committee. The day was of special significance to Madara-Campbell because one of the families celebrated was reunified after Madara-Campbell successfully defended the mother against an action to terminate her parental rights.
"I am very proud of my client," Madara-Campbell said. "She beat the odds. It was her hard work that gave us the evidence we needed to win against the State in the action to terminate her parental rights. She beat drug addiction, overcame domestic violence, and was devoted to her children throughout the case. Now she makes her living helping families in the same situation she fought so hard to overcome."
Speakers at this year's celebration of juvenile court successes included families reunified through the juvenile court process, Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle, and former Omaha Police Chief and current Urban League of Nebraska President and CEO Thomas Warren.
Along with Family & Juvenile Law Omaha, partners in making this year's event possible included the Foster Care Review Board, CASA, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, KVC Behavioral Health Care, the Nebraska Families Collaborative (NFC), Boys Town, and ConAgra.
