Limited Scope or "Un-bundled" Legal Services

For some "simple" family law matters,our firm offers the option of "un-bundled" or "limited scope" representation.

With "un-bundled" or "limited scope" representation, your attorney does some of the work on your case and you do some of the work. You pay a flat fee for the specific task in advance of the work being completed.

Some clients prefer this because they feel it gives them more control over their case and their finances. Others prefer to have one of our experienced attorneys guiding their litigation through every step.

What is Limited Scope Representation?

In "un-bundled" or "limited scope" representation, you only hire the lawyer to do the precise tasks you want them to do.

F
or example, you may choose to hire Family & Juvenile Law Omaha to draft the Complaint for Dissolution to get your divorce started and you may choose to do the rest yourself. Then, when it comes time to attempt to agree on a final Decree, you may decide to hire our firm again to draft the Decree and appear in court for the final hearing.

In limited-scope representation, it's up to you. We will do as little or as much as the client hires us to do.

Be aware, however, that in some cases - such as those where there are contested child custody issues - limited scope representation may not be advisable. Additionally, limitation of legal assistance may adversely affect the outcome of your case.

Find out if Limited Scope is for You

The first step to exploring limited scope representation is to meet with one of our attorneys for a free 30 minute limited scope case evaluation as to whether it might be a good fit for you, based upon the facts of your case and your individual circumstances.

A limited scope case evaluation is different than a full service initial consultation:

In an initial consultation, the attorney will:
  • gather comprehensive details about your legal matter;
  • give you legal advice regarding likely outcomes of your matter based on the facts and circumstances of your individual case;
  • advise you regarding the course of action the firm would take during full service representation;
  • explain to you the process from start to finish;
  • discuss the firm's fee and retainer policies.
An initial consultation takes about one hour. Because of the comprehensive nature of the initial consultation and value of legal advice given, the fee for an initial consultation is $200.00, which is a discount from regular hourly rates.

In a limited scope case evaluation, the attorney will:
  • gather specific details about your legal matter;
  • advise you as to whether your case is appropriate for limited scope representation;
  • if limited scope is an option, the attorney will discuss with you the tasks you want the firm to do, and how much each will cost.
The limited scope case evaluation takes about 30 minutes or less and is free of charge.
